The team behind the rural horror-thriller Yamakaathaghi, released on March 7, gathered to express their gratitude for the film’s critical and commercial success.
“We’ve received overwhelming support from audiences and critics alike,” said director Peppin George Jayaseelan. “What started as a simple idea has become a meaningful project for all of us. The film wouldn’t have reached people without the media’s support.”

Produced by Srinivasarao Jalakam and Ganpathi Reddy under Naisath Media Works, the film features Roopa Koduvayur in the lead role as a deceased woman—an unconventional narrative choice that became the film’s defining element.
“When Peppin first narrated the story, I asked how we could make a film where the protagonist plays a corpse,” recalled dialogue writer S Rajendran. “But he skillfully developed it into an excellent screenplay.”

Cinematographer Sujith Sarang, known for big-budget productions, explained his decision to work on the independent film: “For me, there’s no such thing as a small film or a big film. Quality content matters more than money. I saw tremendous potential in this story.”
Actress Roopa Koduvayur, who spent 35 days portraying a dead body, shared: “This being my first film, I’m so grateful for the opportunity. Had I missed this role, I would have deeply regretted it.”

The film centers on a village affected by a young woman’s death and was shot entirely in and around Thanjavur. With technical contributions from editor Sreejith Sarang and music by Jecin George, Yamakaathaghi continues its successful theatrical run worldwide.
