AR Rahman's son Ameen escapes a 3.30 am car crash in Chennai

Singer AR Ameen, son of composer AR Rahman, escaped with minor injuries when his car collided with a call taxi near the Kathipara flyover in Guindy, Chennai, in the early hours of Monday, August 10.

Ameen was travelling from Koyambedu with his friend Bhargav at around 3.30 am when their car hit a taxi coming from the opposite direction, close to the Olympia Tech Park signal. The impact damaged both vehicles. Ameen, Bhargav and the taxi driver all came away with minor injuries; nothing worse has been reported.

Ameen and his friend were taken to Kauvery Hospital, treated and discharged, and returned home the same morning. A passenger in the taxi was treated at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital and discharged as well. The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing has taken up the case and seized both cars while it works out how the collision happened.

Ameen has been building a career of his own alongside the family name. He was introduced as a child voice in his father’s compositions and had his breakout with Maula Wa Sallim in Mani Ratnam’s OK Kanmani in 2015. More recently he sang My Heart Is Spinning for Dhanush’s Idli Kadai, voiced the Tamil version of Chikiri Chikiri from Ram Charan’s Peddi, and put out the independent single Bheegi Bheegi with Jasleen Royal, with Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur fronting the video.

Rahman’s own slate carries on regardless: Ramayana in two parts, Batwara 1947, Moon Walk and an untitled project with Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj are all in various stages of production, so the family’s calendar stays full while the police finish their paperwork.
