Nayanthara and Kavin's Hi is now streaming on ZEE5

Hi, the romance that paired Nayanthara with Kavin for the first time, is now streaming on ZEE5. The film started streaming on September 25, a little under a month after it opened in theatres on August 28, and follows Jana Nayagan onto the platform. The cast had already taken a thank-you lap for the theatrical response earlier this month.

Debut director Vishnu Edavan’s film centres on a young man who keeps looking for love despite a run of rejections, and a young woman under family pressure who is trying to escape a marriage she does not want. When they meet, the film becomes a gentle story about acceptance and figuring out who you are. Radikaa Sarathkumar and Prabhu are in key roles, and so is the late K. Bhagyaraj, in what turned out to be one of his final screen appearances.

Nayanthara describes her character as independent and firm in her principles, but carrying fears of her own. “The balance between strength and vulnerability is what made her so meaningful for me. She is protective of the people she loves and careful with every decision, but she understands that opening your heart, however hard, can be a beautiful thing.” She credits Vishnu Edavan with bringing real emotional depth and honesty to the storytelling and says the film is close to her because it is such a relatable account of love today, including the pressure and expectations that come from family.

Kavin’s favourite thing about the film is that its hero does not hide what he feels. “In a world where men are expected to keep their emotions to themselves, my character accepts his openly. He goes through love, rejection, self-doubt and the fear of not being enough, and still does not give up hope of finding something meaningful.” He also singled out Jen Martin’s music and background score, and the response to Rasagulla, the Anirudh-sung single that became the film’s calling card.

Lloyd C. Xavier, ZEE5’s business head for Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, called the film’s warmth and simplicity the reason it works for all ages, and said the platform expects it to be one people watch more than once.
