Nayanthara and Kavin's Hi lands August 28 worldwide
A villain-free family entertainer from Vishnu Edavan, the lyricist behind Kaithi and Vikram, with the late K. Bhagyaraj among the cast.
Hi, the first film to pair Nayanthara with Kavin, has an official release date again: the team has announced it will open in theatres worldwide on August 28, a two-week move from the August 14 date it locked earlier.
The film marks the directorial debut of Vishnu Edavan, the lyricist whose credits run through Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi, Master and Vikram. He has written and directed Hi as a full-blown family entertainer, and he is direct about the register he is aiming for. “True to its name, Hi is a simple, sweet, heart-warming family film,” he says. “The story moves across Chennai, Coimbatore and Pollachi, and we have shaped it to be enjoyed with the whole family. It will recall the feel of villain-free family entertainers like Darling Darling Darling, Santhosh Subramaniam and Yaaradi Nee Mohini.”
The supporting cast is stacked with exactly the kind of veterans that pitch calls for: the late K. Bhagyaraj, Prabhu, Radikaa Sarathkumar, VTV Ganesh, Sathyan, ‘Aadhitya’ Kathir and Qureshi all play key roles. Rajesh Shukla handles cinematography, Jen Martin composes, Philomin Raj edits and S. Kannan leads art direction. Two singles are already out: the first has pulled in views in the millions, and Rasagulla, sung by Anirudh, followed it.
Hi is produced by Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan and S.S. Lalit Kumar under the Zee Studios, The Rowdy Pictures and Seven Screen Studio banners, with Vinoth CJ and K.S. Mayilvaganan co-producing and Gubendiran VK as creative producer.
For Nayanthara it is a home production and a return to the romantic-comedy lane she owned in the Yaaradi Nee Mohini years; for Kavin it is the biggest co-star of his career so far. August 28 now has a date to defend.
