Hide & Silk title promo: the saree picks its woman
Karthik Subbaraj's former associate Rajendra Bala makes his debut, and Stone Bench takes its first step into Telugu with a weaver's love story.
Every silk saree has a woman it is meant for, and even as the weaver works, the saree is choosing her. That is the thought at the heart of the Hide & Silk title promo, which introduces a silk weaver whose life crosses paths with that of a modern woman. Suhas plays the lead, and Soori released the promo for Tamil audiences while Varun Tej did the honours in Telugu.
The film is the directorial debut of Rajendra Bala, a former associate of Karthik Subbaraj, who also wrote it. It is the first of four Telugu films planned by Kaarthikeyan Santhanam’s Stone Bench Studio, which has produced 18 films in Tamil and Malayalam so far, and it will release in both Tamil and Telugu. Stone Bench is producing it with Vartika Jain’s Misrilall Pictures.
Suhas comes to it after Mandaadi, where he played the rival boat racer opposite Soori. Sanjana, seen in Lubber Pandhu and DC, plays the female lead, and veteran Tanikella Bharani has a pivotal role. Nandu and Karunakaran round out the cast.
The crew is strong for a first film. Karthik Palani is the cinematographer, Shafique Mohamed Ali edits, and Amrit Ramnath, whose music for 3 BHK drew attention, is the composer. Suresh Selvarajan, who worked on Animal and Petta, is the production designer. Jashuva handles the stunts, Praveen Raja the costumes, Sherif the choreography and Mohan Rajan the lyrics, with Amol Bodake as art director and Suren G and Alagiya Koothan on sound. The makers say the release date and further details will follow in the coming days.
