Sri Annamar Productions takes director Hosimin to court
A production house says it put ₹44.45 lakh into a low-budget film and a YouTube channel in 2022, got neither, and that the director skipped settlement talks.
Sri Annamar Productions has taken director S.P. Hosimin to the Madras High Court, alleging that he failed to deliver on a 2022 deal in which the company says it invested ₹44.45 lakh with him. Hosimin, a former assistant to Shankar, directed February 14, Aayiram Vilakku and the Mirchi Shiva comedy Sumo.
According to the production house, the money went to Hosimin as a co-producer on two fronts: a low-budget feature, and a YouTube channel called Bigbro. The agreement, it says, required the film to be completed within 2022, and the channel to be launched and kept running.
Neither happened, the company alleges. It says work on the film was not even half finished, and that the commitments on the YouTube channel were not met either.
Sri Annamar Productions says it first took the matter to office-bearers of film producers’ associations, which is the usual route for disputes like this in the industry, but no resolution came of it. It then moved the High Court. The court issued notices in the matter, and according to the company, Hosimin did not appear for the court-facilitated settlement discussions that followed.
The production house says it is now pursuing a legal remedy to recover its investment and to address what it describes as the non-fulfilment of the contract. This is the production house’s account. Hosimin’s side of the dispute has not been made public, and none of the claims have yet been tested in court.
