Gautham Vasudev Menon breaks silence on Dhruva Natchathiram clearance
Gautham Vasudev Menon issues his first personal statement after the Madras High Court cleared Dhruva Natchathiram for release. Full quote and context.
Gautham Vasudev Menon has spoken publicly for the first time since the Madras High Court cleared Dhruva Natchathiram for theatrical release. He posted a signed statement on Instagram on Friday, naming the people who got the film over the line and framing the order as a precedent the Tamil industry can lean on.
“Some men tried to destroy my career and stop my film from releasing, a film that’s also the work of more than a hundred people,” he wrote. “Another man, my legal counsel, Senior Advocate Abdul Hameed, assured me there’s a way ahead and walked me towards it. And now a very important man, Hon’ble Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has paved the way for me and finally there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
He went further on the wider implication. “A landmark order passed to release Dhruva Natchathiram will serve as a benchmark to any film that’s stuck in an industry that rarely works with organised and structured funds. Onwards and upwards from here.”
The court has set a release window of on or before June 15, with all transactions routed through an escrow account monitored by an advocate commissioner. Menon is expected to start conversations with exhibitors next, before a final date is announced for the Vikram-led film.
