Santhosh Narayanan and Mannar Muthu team up for Mannaru
Recorded at Future Tense Studios and shot with the children of Vyasarpadi, the gana single opens Rakita Entertainment's account on all platforms.
Mannaru, the first release from Rakita Entertainment, brings together Mannar Muthu’s unmistakable voice and Santhosh Narayanan’s composition. The single is out now on all major music platforms, having dropped on August 8, and the video is streaming on YouTube.
Santhosh Narayanan, who has been building an independent-release lane alongside his film work since Dhee’s Vari Vari, composed, programmed and conceptualised the track, with lyrics by K. Kaattiyan and Gana Francis. Ken Royson directs the video, shot by Jagadesh Jeyamani and cut by Abhijeeth Lakshminarasimman, and the result pairs energetic street visuals with music built to move.
The track was recorded and mixed by Santhosh Narayanan at Future Tense Studios in Chennai, with a live band behind it: Naveen Napier and Rubendhar Venkatesh on bass, Aditya Ravindran and Bhuvanesh on keyboards, Siddharth Nagarajan on drums, Kacha Venkat on dholak and Muniya on side drum, with tapes by Buddhar Kalaikuzhu and mastering by R.K. Sundar.
The video’s cast reads like a street festival roll call, Jimikki, Pachakili, Sappa Thala and Haircut Murugan among them, and the neighbourhood itself gets a credit: children from Vyasarpadi’s J.J.R. Nagar and Sathya Moorthy Nagar blocks and the Vyasarpadi SC STEDS football team all feature in the frames.
The team calls Mannaru the start of a longer musical journey for Rakita Entertainment, and with this pairing fronting the first release, the label’s intentions are clear enough.
