Meesaya Murukku 2 Gets Its Wedding Song in Kalaivaniye
Five singles deep with four weeks to go, Hiphop Tamizha is letting the soundtrack carry the plot. This one scores the marriage at the heart of the film.
Kalaivaniye, the fifth single from Meesaya Murukku 2, does something the previous four did not. It gives away a plot point. The track scores the wedding of Ramya Ranganathan’s character to the one Hiphop Tamizha Adhi plays, which means the album has now stopped being a set of standalone numbers and started narrating the film.
Kaushik Krish and D Sathyaprakash share the vocals with Adhi, who also wrote the lyrics, composed the music, directed the film and stars in it.
The rollout has been deliberately varied. Aura 10/10 opened the album on a slick, trend-chasing note and travelled fast. Pappaali Pazhamey swung the other way into street gaana. Goindhamma and Adi Podi filled in the gap between them. Kalaivaniye is the softest thing in the set so far, which is the point: after four songs built for volume, the wedding needed something that could sit still.
Adhi leads a cast that includes Chaithra J Achar, Ketika Sharma and Ramya Ranganathan, with Harshath Khan, Karunaas, Nasser, Aadukalam Naren and Sha Ra. Khushbu Sundar and ACS Arun Kumar produce under Avni Movies and Benzz Media, with Balaji Subramanyam behind the camera and Fenny Oliver cutting.
Meesaya Murukku 2 opens worldwide on 25 September. That leaves four weeks, and going by the pace of the last five drops, room for at least one more single before the film arrives.
