Pattampoochi Sets the Tone for Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons
Pattampoochi, the first single from Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons, is out. GV Prakash Kumar composes, Subhalashini sings and Venky Atluri directs the film, in theatres August 14.
The first song from Vishwanath & Sons is out, and it picks the softest possible entry point into a film that has otherwise been pitched as a large family drama. Pattampoochi, also released in Telugu as Nano Butterfly, is a romantic number built on a light, unhurried melody, the kind that leans on warmth rather than scale. It is the first piece of music from Suriya and director Venky Atluri’s film, which is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14.
The composition is by GV Prakash Kumar, who reunites with Atluri here after their work together on Vaathi. Melody has always been his comfort zone, and Pattampoochi sits squarely in it, a breezy tune carried by Subhalashini, a singer whose recent run of hits has put her on more soundtracks of late. The lyrics are by Arunraja Kamaraj, the actor and writer last heard fronting Vanjam Theer, who writes the song around the nervousness and rush of early love rather than anything grander.
The film around it has Suriya playing an international pistol shooter, with Mamitha Baiju opposite him and Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon in significant roles. Atluri writes and directs, GV Prakash scores, Nimish Ravi shoots it and Navin Nooli cuts it, with Banglan as production designer. It is produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments along with Fortune Four Cinemas, with Srikara Studios presenting. Naga Vamsi, who backed Vaathi and Lucky Baskhar, is assembling the kind of cross-industry package those titles ran on.
For Suriya, coming off the genre swings of Retro, a straight family entertainer is a deliberate reset, and a gentle love song is a fitting first card to play. Pattampoochi is not trying to be the album’s biggest moment. It is setting the temperature, and the rest of the soundtrack now has room to climb.
