Vishwanath & Sons audio launch goes to Coimbatore, not Chennai
Karuppu's songs were launched in Madurai and the film became Suriya's biggest hit. That sentiment is being run again, twelve days before release.
The audio launch for Vishwanath & Sons happens in Coimbatore on August 2, twelve days before the film opens on August 14. Sithara Entertainments confirmed the date with a short video glimpse, and put the event on a college campus rather than the usual Chennai banquet circuit.
That choice is the interesting part. Song launches for a Suriya release default to Chennai, and this is the second one in a row that has not gone there. Karuppu took its songs to Madurai in May and the film went on to become Suriya’s highest grosser, which is exactly the kind of arithmetic that turns a logistical decision into a superstition. Coimbatore is also where Suriya’s family roots are, so a win he waited years for gets celebrated among relatives rather than in front of the trade. The story itself is said to have a Coimbatore connection, which gives the marketing team a straight face to keep while doing all of the above.
GV Prakash, who composed the album, is expected to perform the songs live at the event. He and Suriya last worked together on Soorarai Pottru, a collaboration that ended with National Awards for both, so the reunion is being sold almost as hard as the film.
Venky Atluri directs. Vishwanath & Sons is Suriya’s 46th film and his first since Karuppu returned him to the box office, and it turns on a romance between a middle-aged man and a woman half his age, with his character Sanjay Vishwanath drawing on the businessman he played in Ghajini. Mamitha Baiju plays the lead opposite him. Raveena Tandon returns to Tamil cinema with this one, 25 years after Aalavandhan.

Radikaa Sarathkumar, Nasser, Sudha, Raghu Babu, Kaali Venkat, George Maryan and Hyper Aadhi fill out the cast. Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya produce, with Nimish Ravi on camera, Navin Nooli cutting and Banglan designing. The songs have been trickling out since Pattampoochi in June; on Sunday the rest of them arrive at once.
