Mythri's third Tamil film is Modha Rathiri, a wedding-night thriller
Mythri Movie Makers' third Tamil production is Modha Rathiri, a wedding-night thriller from debutant Raja Karuppasamy, with Lokesh Kanagaraj unveiling the title.
Mythri Movie Makers has named its third Tamil production. The Hyderabad-based banner behind the Pushpa franchise and Good Bad Ugly unveiled Modha Rathiri on Friday evening, with Lokesh Kanagaraj launching the title and first look on his social handles. The film puts a wedding night at the centre of the premise: one unusual marriage, two strangers, and a single night that goes off the rails.
Raja Karuppasamy is making his directorial debut. Rishikanth leads, with Anishma Anilkumar, seen earlier in Sirai and Youth, opposite him. The supporting ensemble is unusually wide for a thriller: Chetan, A. Venkatesh, Bucks, Abdool Lee, Shelly Kishore, Sangeetha Balan, Banupriya, Sumithra Devi L., Varshini Karmegham, Karthikeyan, Velan and Kowshik Kabilan among others.
“At Mythri, we’ve been associated with large-scale entertainers, but we’ve also wanted to back content-driven stories,” producer Naveen Yerneni said, framing Modha Rathiri as the kind of contained, premise-led project the banner hasn’t backed in Tamil before. Karuppasamy’s pitch, the team said, locked in the green-light on first hearing.
Surendran Paranjothi shoots, Ashok Arjunan cuts and Bharath Sankar, who scored Mandela and Maaveeran, composes. Poornima Ramaswamy designs the costumes; A. Balumahendra is on art; Viyaki handles publicity design. The title card, in glowing Tamil lettering strung over a single bedroom set with banana leaves and fairy lights, suggests the film is staying inside one location for at least the spine of the story. Shoot details and a release window are next.
