AK64 stays silent as Ajith turns 55

Ajith Kumar turned 55 on May 1 with no AK64 announcement in sight. Adhik Ravichandran's birthday note for the actor kept the speculation alive.

Ajith Kumar turned 55 on May 1 with the film industry waiting for an AK64 announcement that never came. The actor’s birthday has historically been a launch window for his next project; this year, the slot stayed empty.

What did arrive was a note from Adhik Ravichandran, who directed Ajith in last year’s Good Bad Ugly. Adhik’s message, written in the warm, slightly fan-like register he has cultivated since GBU released, described the experience of working with Ajith as “like a dream” and called their time on the film unforgettable. He signed off saying he hoped to make more memories soon. The post trended within hours and was read by fans as confirmation, or close enough, that he will direct AK64.

Adhik never mentioned AK64 by name. No producer has been attached publicly, no banner has issued anything official, and Dinamalar’s report on the missing announcement reads like a polite version of the question every Ajith fan was asking by Friday evening: where is it?

Part of the silence is structural. Ajith has spent much of the past year on the racing circuit, not on a film set, with most of his recent public appearances coming at race tracks rather than promotional events. Good Bad Ugly, his last release, came out in early 2025. The gap between his projects is now well over a year, longer than the cadence he maintained through most of the 2010s.

Adhik’s tone suggests AK64 is real and moving. The empty announcement slot suggests it is not yet camera-ready. Fans got the wish, not the news.
