Jiiva's Thagappan sets December 24 release
Ra. Venkat's father-son drama is rooted in Madurai, with Rajisha Vijayan in the lead cast and Zee Tamil and ZEE5 securing television and streaming rights.
Jiiva’s Thagappan will release in theatres worldwide on December 24, with Lark Studios confirming the date through a new poster. The family drama, written and directed by Ra. Venkat and produced by K. Kumar, had previously announced a December release window.
Set in Madurai and its surrounding areas, the film centres on a father-son relationship, family affection and the emotions that bind people together. Rajisha Vijayan plays the female lead, with Lakshmy Ramakrishnan also in the cast. Venkat, who made Kida, brings the story to the screen with Jiiva in a rural setting.
The release poster places the actor in the middle of a street fight, wearing a brown shirt and a blue lungi. It follows the earlier first look, which showed Jiiva and a young boy seated outside the Madurai District Court.
The makers have spoken warmly about the response to scenes filmed in Madurai, saying local onlookers were moved by what they watched and praised the team. With the release date now fixed, the unit is working on the film’s final stages ahead of its Christmas Eve opening.
Independent musician Marshall Robinson, who has worked with composers including Anirudh, is scoring the film. M. Sukumar handles cinematography, Nagooran Ramachandran edits, and K.B. Nandhabalan is the art director. Mahesh Mathew choreographs the action, with M. Selvaraj handling costumes, Rithesh Selvaraj on costume design and T. Uday Kumar on audiography.
Think Music holds the audio rights. According to the makers, Zee Tamil acquired the satellite rights and ZEE5 the streaming rights before the film was completed.
