Dhanush's D55 Is Now OM: Chapter 1, and the Title Is the Smallest Reveal
Dhanush and Rajkumar Periasamy's D55 has been titled OM: Chapter 1, with Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela aboard. The action film releases worldwide on October 16.
The title was the easy part. Dhanush and Rajkumar Periasamy’s D55, one of the most tracked films on the Tamil calendar, now has a name: OM, or in full, OM: Chapter 1. The team unveiled it at the film’s title announcement, and director Rajkumar was quick to wave off the obvious read. It is not merely a spiritual title, he said, but one carrying several layers folded into it, with interesting aspects the audience will unpack as the film rolls out. The “Chapter 1” tag does the rest of the talking on its own.
What the team released was not a poster but a title video, and Rajkumar made a point of it. Rather than print a still and call it a launch, he said, they cut a piece designed to introduce the character Dhanush plays to the audience for the very first time, edited by Kalaivanan, who cut Amaran and the recent Karuppu. The teaser, separate introduction teasers for each major character, and the main trailer are all slated across the coming weeks and months.

The ensemble is where OM starts to look unusual. This is the first time Dhanush and Rajkumar Periasamy have worked together, a pairing built on the back of Amaran’s nationwide success, and the director has stacked the frame around his lead. Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela play the female leads. Malayalam star Mammootty comes in for a pivotal role, the kind of casting that shifts a film’s weight, and Indran is among the wider spread of actors Rajkumar singled out. He described the first schedule as already wrapped, with the title chosen, the cast locked and the shoot moving at pace into its next stages.

Behind the scale is a production split between Wunderbar Films and R Take Studios, the latter making its first Tamil film with this one. Wunderbar’s Sreyas called it the biggest-budget film of his run so far and pitched it as an old-school Dhanush mass commercial, the register that built the actor’s base before his arthouse and Hindi detours. The R Take team framed the collaboration as the start of a longer run. Cinematographer Ezhilarasu heads a heavy technical unit, Sai Abhyankkar scores the film off the back of a hot streak with younger listeners, and Divo and Warner Music handle the music side.

OM is set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, a date the makers kept repeating like a fixed point on the way out. With one schedule done and the rest of the rollout, teasers, character intros, trailer, still ahead, the title is the first card OM has shown. On the evidence of who it has gathered, it is holding plenty more.
