Tabu slaps her way into Slum Dog as Gauri Hegde
Cigarette, slap, wooden baton: the new glimpse from Puri Jagannadh's film with Vijay Sethupathi hands Tabu a full mass introduction.
The makers of Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road have released a glimpse built entirely around Tabu, and it hands her the kind of introduction usually reserved for the hero.
The film is the first to pair Puri Jagannadh with Vijay Sethupathi, an action drama promising raw emotion, hard-hitting fights and a streak of mystery. After a first-look poster of Tabu as Gauri Hegde, the new glimpse shows how the character operates. She arrives by car into the middle of the city’s slums, lights a cigarette, warns a local goon once, and then slaps him. When the streets push back, she picks up a wooden baton and puts the situation down herself, police and crowd watching, entirely unbothered.
The text cards flashing through the glimpse, One Fearless Woman, Powerful Officer, Ruthless, Merciless, Devil in the Department, do everything except lower expectations. The punchline lands at the end, when she introduces herself: “Gauri Hegde, Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax.” It is a thoroughly Puri Jagannadh flourish, the swagger of a mass entrance attached to a tax officer’s visiting card. Vijay Sethupathi flickers through the edit in brief flashes.
Samyuktha plays the female lead, Duniya Vijay takes the negative role, and Brahmaji and VTV Ganesh fill out the cast. Sam K Naidu shoots the film, Harshavardhan Rameshwar composes and Santosh Noozilla edits. Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur produce under Puri Connects with JB Motion Pictures’ JB Narayan Rao Kondrolla.
Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road is headed for a pan-India release in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The teaser set the world; this glimpse names its most dangerous resident.
