ZEE5 goes all in: Demonte Colony 3 and a Nayanthara-Kavin film headline its biggest slate yet

Streaming platforms do not announce content slates so much as declare intentions, and ZEE5 has just made its loudest declaration to date. The platform has published its biggest-ever lineup, spread across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali, folding films, web series, live sport, AI-driven storytelling, animation and children’s programming into a single announcement. The unstated message to its deeper-pocketed rivals: the home-grown platform intends to fight in every language at once.

For Tamil viewers, the column that matters reads like this. Koose Munisamy Veerappan, the docu-series that turned the brigand’s story into one of the platform’s most-watched Tamil titles, returns for a second season, and the investigative series Thadayam gets a follow-up too. Two new originals join them: Ananthakaalam, and Thee Kural, which ZEE5 is billing as India’s first independent rap battle show. On the film side sit Demonte Colony 3, the next chapter of the horror franchise, Raawadi, and the most eyebrow-raising entry of the lot, Hi!, which puts Nayanthara opposite Kavin. Passion Studios and Vriddhi Cinemas are the Tamil production partners.

The Hindi shelf is the widest, as ever. R. Madhavan hosts a revival of Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, the series lineup runs from Rangbaaz season 4 to The Scam: Leaked and a new Zee Horror Show, and the film list is led by Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, a Varun Dhawan rom-com with Pooja Hegde and Mouni Roy, alongside Bandar, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata and a stack of mid-budget titles. Jio Studios, Maddock Films, Reliance Entertainment and Tips are among the houses supplying it.

The southern spread is just as deliberate. Telugu gets originals Shrimathi and Objection Mylord plus theatrical heavyweights down the line, including NBK111 and Venky Anil 5, with Annapurna Studios and Sri Venkateswara Creations on board. Kannada brings a new season of Ayyana Mane along with Bitcoin Scam, Operation Bangara and the film Karavali, with KVN Productions, the house behind Jana Nayagan, among the partners. Malayalam counters with A Queen, Malabar Cup, Balan The Boy and Kerala Underground, a rap battle show mirroring the Tamil experiment. Marathi and Bengali round out the seven, the latter reviving Lalbazaar and Shwetkali.

The two executives fronting the announcement pitched it in complementary keys. ZEE5 India’s business head Tejkaran Singh Bajaj framed it as ambition: the platform’s aim is to shape the entertainment industry’s shifts rather than follow them, bringing the country’s best creators onto one platform across all seven languages. Chief content officer Raghavendra Hunsur made the quality argument: “Every title on our slate has been chosen with clear intent. We prioritise stories that stay with people over sheer volume of content.”

Beyond the shows and films, the platform is leaning on two more fronts. Live sport, where its FIFA partnership runs to 2034 and covers digital streaming of the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and 2030, along with Bundesliga football, ILT season 5 and Tamil Nadu Kabaddi. And a growing AI-and-animation wing built largely on mythology, from Garud and Vikram Betal to Tirupati Balaji, plus a kids’ catalogue topped by Bandbudh and Budbak 2.0.

Slate announcements are promises, and streaming history is littered with broken ones. But the Tamil portion of this one is unusually concrete: two returning hits, a horror threequel with a built-in audience, and a Nayanthara-Kavin pairing nobody saw coming. Those are titles with dates to keep.
