Parimala & Co: Pandiraj's family whodunit lands on ZEE5

Pandiraj's Parimala & Co, with Jayaram, Urvashi, Mysskin and Yogi Babu, streams on ZEE5 from July 10 in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi.

Parimala & Co puts an ordinary household at the centre of a comic murder investigation, with Mysskin's officer bearing down on them.

Pandiraj has built a career on films where the whole household is the hero, and Parimala & Co takes that instinct and drops a body in the middle of it. The film streams on ZEE5 from July 10, arriving at once in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi, a straight-to-platform release pitched at families across the country rather than a single-language audience.

The setup is a comedy that curdles into a murder mystery. An ordinary family finds itself pulled, without ever meaning to, into the centre of a strange investigation. Suspicion spreads, buried secrets start surfacing, and every member of the house ends up tangled in a run of misunderstandings and reversals as the case closes in. It is recognisably Pandiraj territory, the affection and the domestic squabbles of a large family, only this time wired to a whodunit.

The casting is the draw. Jayaram and Urvashi anchor the family, a pairing with decades of shared history across Malayalam and Tamil cinema, and around them Pandiraj has assembled a deep bench: Mysskin, whose looming officer dominates the poster, alongside Yogi Babu, Sandy, Santhosh Sobhan, Sanjana Krishnamurthy and Ananthika Sanilkumar. It is the kind of sprawling ensemble Pandiraj tends to write for, where the comedy is spread across the table rather than parked on one star.

Behind the camera it is a well-appointed production. Pandiraj writes and directs, and produces alongside Subaskaran, with Lyca Productions and his own Pasanga Productions sharing the load. George C. Williams shoots it, Foxn scores, Pradeep E Ragav edits and T Ramalingam handles the art direction. For Pandiraj, coming off Thalaivan Thalaivii, it is a return to the ensemble family comedy that made his name.

The five-language simultaneous drop is the strategy worth watching. A Pandiraj family entertainer is a known quantity in Tamil, but ZEE5 is betting the same warmth and situational humour travel, and that a comic murder mystery is broad enough to land in Telugu and Hindi living rooms too. It joins a growing slate of titles the platform has taken direct to streaming, Warrant among the recent ones. Parimala & Co begins streaming on ZEE5 on July 10.
