Vishwanath & Sons opens bookings with a lathi in hand

16,000 tickets in the first hours, hourly trending on BookMyShow, and a bookings poster that swaps the milk bottle for a smoke-filled street fight.

A week of autumn light and milk bottles, then this: the bookings poster puts Suriya back on a smoky street with men at his feet.

Vishwanath & Sons advance booking opened on Tuesday evening and moved quickly: over 16,000 tickets sold on BookMyShow in the first hours with only part of the seating map live, the platform’s trending tag clocking spells of more than 2,000 tickets an hour, and the interest counter past 85,000 before most centres had even listed shows. Overseas the machinery is further along, with AMC and Cinemark carrying showtimes in the US and German listings live since before Tamil Nadu’s counters opened.

The more interesting release-week move is the poster the numbers arrived with. After a campaign that has sold nothing but warmth, soft light, autumn parks, a baby carrier, the bookings-open artwork drops Suriya into a smoke-filled night street, lathi in hand, an Ambassador behind him and two men face-down on the tarmac. The timing is not subtle: the family audience has had a week of reassurance, and the opening-day crowd gets its reassurance the moment tickets go on sale. Somewhere in Sanjay Vishwanath’s wholesome world, there is at least one night where the pistol shooter picks up a stick instead.

The ticketing pages themselves stay on message, filing the film under drama, family and romantic, with the logline of an international shooter who has spent his life chasing excellence. Both readings have until tomorrow to coexist. The film, 161 minutes in its final cut, opens worldwide on Friday, August 14, with Tamil and Telugu versions booking now.
