The teaser for Yen Ennai Yetho Seithai is out, and the most interesting thing about the film is sitting in its technical credits rather than its plot. T Anthony has made the entire picture in live sound, with no dubbing, and every song on the soundtrack was recorded with live instruments instead of programmed.

That is a stubborn choice in an industry where the sync-sound experiment usually gets abandoned somewhere between the first crowded exterior and the first budget meeting. Anand Ravichandran, who shot DeAr in live sound, once described the trade plainly: the takes multiply, and you can only cast people who can actually deliver on the floor. It also fits what this film is trying to be. The pitch is an intense romantic drama built to be carried by light and sound together, and a soundtrack that breathes on real strings and real rooms is the kind of texture that only survives if you commit to it from day one.

The story follows a young man who lost his mother as a child, grew up alone, and has been drinking his way through the years since. Love arrives in the middle of that, and the film is about the pull it exerts, out of isolation and toward something less dark.

The teaser stays with that arc rather than selling a hook. It moves between the loneliness, the drinking, and the change the relationship sets off, and it holds the tenderness and the damage in roughly equal measure instead of picking one.

Anthony is doing an unusual amount of the work himself. He wrote the story and screenplay, directed, produced under his own Anthony’s Atelier banner, cut the film, and plays the lead. The cinematography is by Pietro Villani, an outside eye on a small Tamil romance. Jaikar Harinath and Ashok Sridharan composed the songs, Joey Rida scored the background, and Karthik Netha and Tamilmani wrote the lyrics. Jaikar Harinath also handled the sound recording, with Anand Ramachandran mixing and K.K. Surendran on art direction. Hariharan and Santhosh are the executive producers.

Madhumitha Das plays opposite Anthony, with Jeeva Ravi, Rejin Rose, Alam Shah, Navya Suji, Mathangi Sathish and Riya Manoj in the rest of the cast. The film keeps the shape of an old-fashioned love story while aiming its screenplay at Gen Z and millennial viewers, which is a balance more films announce than land.

Shooting is finished and the film is in its final stretch of post-production. It releases in theatres on August 21.
