Brown Mani: Rio Raj presents Ram Nishanth, JS Kavi in first look

Brown Mani first look unveiled. Rio Raj presents Ram Nishanth and JS Kavi in Kathiravan Sampath's friendship drama, shot live-sound across south India.

Rio Raj has presented the title and first look of Brown Mani, a new entertainer being made under the joint banner of River Route Studios and Red Rock Studios. It is the first collaboration between the two outfits. The poster, released today, leans into a dusty, sun-bleached small-town palette with two leads parked beside an old motorbike, setting up the friendship at the centre of the film.

Brown Mani is built around Ram Nishanth and JS Kavi as the two friends, with Kathiravan Sampath writing and directing. The makers are positioning it as a family drama with humour and warmth, working off the dynamic between the two leads rather than a high-concept hook.

The technical line-up: Dev Prakash Regan on music, Sakthi Subramanian on camera, Sundar S editing, Abr handling art. The notable production choice sits with the sound. Brown Mani is being made as a fully live-recorded sync-sound film, with the Soundaholics team designing the audio. That is a rare commitment in mainstream Tamil cinema, where dialogue is almost always re-recorded in studio after the shoot wraps; sync-sound asks more of locations, performers, and the schedule, but holds onto the texture of the place a film was shot in.

Shooting wrapped across locations in southern India and the film is now in post-production. Kavinn GT is co-producer, with Rio and Ramesh producing under their respective banners.

Audio launch and release plans will follow. Rio Raj’s last presenter credit, Sweetheart, pulled in a Yuvan Shankar Raja score and a wide trailer launch; Brown Mani is being routed differently, with a quieter post-production rollout while the technical team locks the live-recorded mix.
