KING first song Tu Mil Jaaye pairs Arijit with Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran wrote and raps his own English verse, and Deepika Padukone is back opposite Shah Rukh Khan, seven weeks before KING reaches cinemas.
Shah Rukh Khan marked his 61st birthday on November 2 by releasing Tu Mil Jaaye, the first song from KING, his action entertainer with director Siddharth Anand. The KING first song puts Arijit Singh and Ed Sheeran on the same track, with Sheeran writing and performing an English rap section, and brings Deepika Padukone back opposite Khan.
The video starts with dialogue before the music arrives. “Main qaatil nahi, aashiq hoon,” Khan says: he is no killer but a lover, his target is his beloved, and a lover who doesn’t tear the heart open hardly counts. From there it becomes a peppy romantic dance number, with Madhubanti Bagchi joining Arijit on vocals. It signs off with a second line, “Iss baar dil mein aag lagi hai, ab duniya jalaye bina manega nahi”: this time the fire is in his heart, and he won’t stop until the world burns.
Sachin-Jigar composed the song, Kumaar wrote the Hindi lyrics, and Piyush-Shazia choreographed it. Between the romantic sequences, the video cuts to action beats and quick transitions, which the makers are pitching as an early look at the film’s dehshat, the menace Khan’s character carries alongside the charm.
The song is the latest reunion for a pairing that runs from Om Shanti Om through Chennai Express and Happy New Year to Pathaan, which Anand also directed. Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures produce KING.
Tu Mil Jaaye is streaming on music platforms now, with the video on the T-Series and Zee Music Company YouTube channels. KING opens worldwide on December 24, the same day as Raawadi, the Basil Joseph and LK Akshay Kumar campus comedy.
