Soundarya Rajinikanth recalls her grandmother at hair donation drive
More than 800 people lined up to give their hair in one record attempt in Chennai, for patients who lose theirs during cancer treatment.
More than 800 people came forward to donate their hair for cancer patients in a single sitting, as Ladies Circle India and the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research staged a world record attempt in Chennai. Director and producer Soundarya Rajinikanth, the chief guest, inaugurated the hair donation drive and addressed the donors.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Soundarya said the cause was personal. Her grandmother had cancer, and she saw at close quarters how the illness and its treatment took her hair. She said she understood the distress hair loss adds for people already fighting the disease, and called hair donation an act worth encouraging.
She also had a request for anyone holding a phone. Social media, she said, should be put to good use, and events like this one deserve to be shared far more widely than they usually are. She promised to support similar efforts in whatever way she could.

For Soundarya, whose Zion Films produced With Love earlier this year, the record attempt was a chance to put her name behind a cause she had already seen up close in her own family.
