Mrunal Thakur's Pooja Meri Jaan finally lands on ZEE5 October 2

Pooja Meri Jaan, the Maddock Films drama that has been waiting in the wings since it was announced in 2022, will premiere on ZEE5 on October 2. Navjot Gulati directs, Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik produce, and the trailer that dropped this week makes clear this is not the romantic comedy the title might suggest.

Mrunal Thakur plays Pooja, who rejects a close friend when he confesses his feelings. What follows is a string of unsettling events, and the film is built around the question of what actually happened: whether Pooja is a victim of circumstance, or more tangled up in the events around her than she lets on. Huma Qureshi plays Sana, a lawyer drawn into the case who tries to piece together the truth from accounts that refuse to line up. Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz round out the principal cast.

The pitch is a multi-perspective mystery about rejection, obsession, consent and how quickly an audience, or a society, settles on a verdict. Mrunal says that was what hooked her. “Pooja is a deeply layered character. I had to move through a range of emotions without giving away answers the audience has to find for themselves. The story keeps questioning how our perspective shapes what we see, what we believe, and how fast we judge a person or a situation.”

Huma frames Sana as the film’s legal lens. “What makes Pooja Meri Jaan interesting is that it never approaches its central incident from a single point of view. Sana is trying to make sense of the conflicting accounts around Pooja. The film is about how hard it is to separate the truth from our assumptions.”

Vikram Singh Chauhan calls it the kind of story that stays with you long after. “It asks how well we really know a situation, or the people in it. The story keeps shifting your perspective, and it does not hand the audience easy answers.”

Pooja Meri Jaan streams in Hindi on ZEE5 from October 2.
