Sattamum Needhiyum 2 puts Varalaxmi in Saravanan's corner
Last time it was a missing girl and a father who set himself alight outside court. This time the case runs into power and privilege, and Varalaxmi joins.
Sattamum Needhiyum season 2 premieres on Tamil ZEE5 on October 23, and the courtroom drama is coming back with a brand new case and a second heavyweight in the frame. Saravanan returns as the series’ centre, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar joins him in a key role. Balaji Selvaraj directs again, with Sasikala Prabhakaran producing under the 18 Creators banner.
The first season, which dropped in July 2025, was billed as Saravanan’s first lead role in around 15 years, and it gave him an unlikely hero to play. Sundaramoorthy is a modest notary public who ends up arguing in court after a father sets himself on fire outside the building, following his daughter’s abduction. Working with his junior Aruna, played by Namritha, Sundaramoorthy takes on what looks like a straightforward inquiry. Over seven episodes it turns into a tangle of power, influence and buried facts that tests how far he is willing to go. ZEE5 said the show crossed 51 million streams in its first 72 hours.
Season two starts fresh rather than reopening that file. The makers describe a new case that sits further into the grey zones of justice, where power, privilege and private decisions shape the road to the truth as much as any verdict does. The question running underneath it is the price people are prepared to pay for justice, and who ends up paying it. The team is promising the same plain, grounded storytelling that defined the first run, with more layers and higher stakes on top.
Varalaxmi is no stranger to a courtroom set. She led the legal drama The Verdict in 2025, and her casting gives the new season a second strong presence to push against Saravanan’s quietly stubborn lawyer. The poster puts the two of them side by side above a red-brick courthouse under the line “The next battle for justice begins.”
Season one is still streaming on ZEE5 for anyone who wants to catch up on Sundaramoorthy before the new case opens on October 23.
